You have a choice…. RIGHT NOW you have a choice. You can choose to continue reading or get back to something you were already doing. You can choose to work on your future business or watch the next ‘big game’. Isn’t it beautiful and terrifying all at the same time?
Use your ability to choose to make a decision that benefits you in some way. You can do this multiple times today and this week. It is incredibly empowering to be reminded you have a choice and then make the choice that serves your goals in the best way possible. It is also scary that the numerous choices you make on a daily and weekly basis change your entire world in a very short time or, even scarier for some of you, keep it the same.
Sometimes people talk about choices as if one is completely right and pure and the other is completely wrong and evil. I believe there is a lot more grey in this than most people understand. I believe it also helps to think about choices in a certain way if we want to change our behaviors and results. If you move away from a good choice vs. bad choice paradigm to more of asking yourself: does this choice move me toward where I want to go or further away from it? I believe you will consistently make choices that help yourself a lot more. If I see one choice as good and the other as bad I am now starting to judge myself for even THINKING of making the ‘bad’ choice and start feeling awful and despicable and then have more reason to make the bad choice because I’m bad anyway (because I’ve already thought it). Does that make sense? If you move away from judgement and more toward curiosity about ourselves and what is driving certain thoughts or behaviors you will then learn about yourself and be more open to seeing yourself for who you are rather than how you believe others judge you to be.
It helps to understand that no one choice will make you or break you. It is always a combination of choices that take you anywhere. I’ve heard people talk about ‘one bad choice’ that completely destroyed their life. That’s absolutely, 100% false. It was simply the last choice they made on that journey that they are referring to (there were many others before that). Remember this and be encouraged that one choice in any direction won’t affect you greatly, especially if the next few choices are moving you in a different direction.
Here’s the challenge moving into the weekend: Become aware that at every point in time over the next few days you have a choice to continue or change what you are currently doing. You can choose to respond differently to someone you care about. You can choose to put down a game or TV remote and start working on a project that will give your spirit much more rest. It is YOUR choice. Nobody else’s (regardless of what many will say). Learn to be in control of you and your future. Listen to what your heart calls out for rather than settling for what the latest commercial promotes. Trust me with this… if you make choices this weekend that align with what you truly want in life, you will feel far more rested and energetic than if you focus on escaping life through many of the activities that are ‘normal’.
Have a empowered weekend!
